【JASM】Customer Engineer / Field Service Engineer

*This position is based in Kumamoto, Japan and involves working with all product tools for TSMC customer. After onboarding in Japan, the candidate will be sent to Taiwan for one year of training(OJT), and then permanently stationed in Kumamoto, Japan.

What You’ll Do 

As a Field Service Engineers/Customer Engineer, you'll quickly solve high-value problems for customers. By collaborating closely with our customers onsite to install, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment, you’ll make a significant impact on ensuring peak performance and deliver exceptional service, while becoming an integral part of Applied Materials' diverse and dynamic field team.  

 

We empower our Field Service Engineers/Customer Engineer through comprehensive on-the-job training and the use of advanced digital tools and immersive technology, including Augmented Reality (AR) to support the systems and processes that underpin everyday semiconductor chip production. Where you work: 

Location: Onsite; Kumamoto, Japan 

The TSMC Kumamoto plant, operated by Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM), is TSMC's first semiconductor production facility in Japan. Located in Kikuyo town, a suburb of Kumamoto, this state-of-the-art plant is part of TSMC's global expansion strategy. The facility produces chips ranging from 6 nanometers to 28 nanometers, catering to various applications including consumer electronics and automotive industries. 

 

Role Responsibilities:  

Assist senior engineers with installing leading-edge customer equipment, performing scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance, and upgrading equipment Performs all standard service activities through Tier I unassisted. Performs standard Tier II with assistance. Able to perform routine preventative maintenance within established timeframes. Completes quality repairs. Responds to fab issues by communicating with other engineers and participating in escalation conference calls. May participate in projects to reduce costs and increase uptime. Follow procedures you learn during your training, as well as published task plans, to test equipment and to diagnose and resolve technical problems Complete required job documentation, safety training and procedures for processing parts Professionally represent Applied Materials to the customer, using your “customer first” mindset Satisfy the company’s and customer’s on-site requirements, including safety, environmental and COVID-19 guidelines 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering related (Hardware related preferred) Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics Clear and effective written/verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on document details Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge in any of the following: pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics Knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter Language: Chinese and English are must, Japanese is a plus Language Certification: TOEIC 550 or above 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Welcome experience in customer/field support, semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry New College Graduates are also welcome 

 

What to expect:  

FSO (Field Service Organization) CE: Relocation within Country based on business needs. Also, in general, you’ll work with Applied Materials Japan AGS on-call model to provide ongoing technical support for our customers. Some product field service teams may need to work in shifts depending on business needs. Your job requires the ability to: 

Lift at least10~20kg. Work in a clean room environment wearing coveralls, hood, booties, safety glasses, and gloves Sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach and stretch to reach equipment when needed, and stand for extended periods of time Determine differences in colors
