1st Processing General Labor 

\n

Hours: 9:45am to 6:30pm 

\n

Position Summary:

\n

Responsible for performing numerous tasks on recently-slaughtered turkeys or tasks that support the overall operations within the department

\n

 

\n

Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:

\n

Inspect the birds as they move down the line.  Check for bruises, scabs, tears, feathers, broken bones, etc.

\n

Trim bird as needed.  Remove scabs, feathers, slice or remove bruises, remove parts with broken bones (wings, drums, etc.). Drawer easier access to remove the heart and liver so that it may be harvested.

\n

Throw away the condemned parts either in a red barrel or onto the condemned parts conveyor belt.

\n

Drop the salvage parts (wings, drums, etc.) onto the salvage conveyor belt.

\n

Hang back birds or parts on the hang back rack as required.

\n

 

\n

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

\n

Proper PPE usage: The employee should be aware of the required protective equipment (Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, Arm Guard and Mesh Glove, Kevlar Glove, Mesh/Hex Armor Apron).

\n

Employee may need to pad the fingertips of the non-knife hand to protect the skin from rubbing against the steel glove and the neck bones.

\n

Employee will need to be instructed in the proper use of the knife sharpener located at the workstation.

\n

 

\n

Physical Requirements:

\n

Standing (8 hours a day or more),

\n

Working with scissors or knives

\n

Gripping, grasping and twisting using hands and wrists

\n

Have the physical ability to lift, carry and hang birds as required.

\n

Inspect the exterior of the birds for defects.

\n

Trim or remove parts of the birds as needed.

\n

Trim or remove only those parts necessary to ensure a wholesome bird.  Do not over trim the birds.

\n

Do not trim parts from Osteo (double mark on the back) birds.

\n

Sanitize knives. Warning: The sanitizer’s water temperature is 180 degrees -for sanitizing knives only – Do not place body parts or equipment (Mesh Gloves) inside or on top of sanitizer.

\n

Monitor and inspect for fecal on the back of the birds, if fecal is found, pull birds off the line and hang it on the rack to be reprocessed.

\n

Breast trimmers will inform the back trimmers if any fecal is found on breast or inside the birds cavity, so back trimmers can pull it off the line and hang it on the rack to be reprocessed

\n

 

\n

Working Conditions/Department Description:

May work in damp environment

\n

Seasonably hot and warm environment

\n

Work with loud and noisy machinery

\n

Work in dusty environment

\n

Work with chemical or Fumes

\n

Work around pungent odors

\n
