JOB SUMMARY:

The Supervisor is a proactive leader overseeing the performance of their assigned production team, ensuring all manufacturing activities align with customer requirements for cost, quality, and delivery. Responsible for creating a safe and efficient work environment, the Supervisor leads and participates in continuous improvement initiatives and drives problem-solving efforts in line with the MAFACT Production System. They are accountable for overall schedule attainment, productivity, and workforce management, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to production goals across their shift.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality - Makes quality control decisions based on established quality standards and checks.  Identifies opportunities for common mistake proofing. Understands quality control plans. Accurately tracks and measures defects and performs a defect analysis.  Ensures standardized work is followed and maintained.  Communication - Effectively communicates performance in all aspects of the business including, but not limited to Policy, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Equity, Productivity and General Focus Factory Communications, during pre-shift meetings and team meetings.  Safety/5S - Corrects or commends health and safety performance in work area and takes immediate action to correct unsafe conditions or actions. Ensures employees are appropriately trained in recognizing hazards associated and specific to their job. Completes safety inspections on a routine basis, and ensures compliance with all Health and Safety as well as ISO14001 policies and procedures. Leads accident/incident investigations. Assists in conducting risk assessment on new and/or modified equipment and/or processes. Staffing - Through subordinate Team Leaders, responsible for weekly staffing of work cells based on customer demand / weekly schedule in accordance with materials team. Staffs work cells with trained personnel to meet “takt time”.  Maintains vacation, overtime, off-line training and relief schedules HR/Training - Development of employees using Training Within Industry and training matrices.  Presents new information to large and small groups.  Administers and applies company policy consistently and fairly.  Has the ability to hire/fire and discipline employees.  Provides constructive feedback to all employees regularly through performance reviews.  Establishes individual development plans by determining needed skills and knowledge.  Participates in the hiring of new employees by interviewing candidates effectively and legally. Develops team competence using EOS improvement activities.  Responsible for maintaining and developing team morale. Improvements - Responsible for continuous improvement for customer concerns, on time delivery through schedule attainment, quality, scrap reduction, safety and morale. Leads teams through problem solving process, documents issues and identifies solutions that prevent recurrence. Supports Continuous Improvement team in the performance and completion of time studies of operation while developing and performing, with the team, work sequence, standardized work and takt time charting. Materials - Leads on-line schedule attainment.  Knowledge and usage of Baan related systems and implements visual controls as required.  Responds to inventory variances with corrective action for manufacturing shift. Monitors utilization of kanban – JIT systems. Upward Communications - Tracks and evaluates performance measurables against safety, quality, cost and delivery goals.  Executes appropriate action plans to meet or exceed goals.  Alerts management team of significant variations of goals and expectations to prevent surprises through corrective action, desired performance and proactive communication. General - Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. EHS - Performs all work in compliance with Magna and Magna Engineered Glass Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all federal, State and local laws; promptly report any hazardous condition or workplace injury to immediate supervisor or EHS designate.

 

   ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure compliance with all company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, as well as applicable local, state, and federal regulations, by promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Lead safety initiatives within the department, ensuring that all employees receive proper EHS training, including but not limited to, hazard recognition, emergency response, and safe operating procedures. Champion continuous improvement of EHS practices by actively participating in safety committees, reviewing incident reports, and sharing best practices across the organization. Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards, recommending and implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks and prevent workplace incidents. Collaborate with the EHS team and plant leadership to drive initiatives aimed at reducing workplace accidents, promoting ergonomic work environments, and enhancing overall employee well-being. Monitor and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that equipment and tools are in safe working condition. Lead and participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective and preventive actions to ensure lessons are learned and shared across the organization. Track and report EHS metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents, near misses, and safety improvements to meet corporate and regulatory standards. Support the development of emergency preparedness and response plans, ensuring that staff are adequately trained to respond to potential emergencies effectively.

 

   MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree such as Engineering, Business, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in manufacturing, operations, or a related field, with at least three years in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience in automotive is strongly preferred. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, representing the company in a professional manner. Solid understanding of business issues relevant to the role, with the ability to prioritize work and solve problems based on operating procedures. Proven leadership abilities with a track record of developing and managing staff toward short-term departmental goals through support, training, and guidance. Demonstrate project management and organizational skills to manage multiple issues simultaneously, with the ability to motivate teams toward achieving moderate-term objectives. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and other relevant software/tools. Experience with QAD is an asset. Demonstrate experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Proven ability to lead process improvement initiatives. Strong analytical skills with a track record of successfully resolving complex operational issues in fast-paced environments. Ability to complete training in MagNET (company intranet) as required by the EHS Training Matrix and under role specific guidelines. English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Standing and walking 75%; sitting 25% Production floor environment, that is loud (hearing protection strongly recommended) Willing and able to work 7 days per week, 10-12 hour shifts, during periods of peak customer demand.
