The Microelectronics Designs and Applications (MDA) Business Area (BA) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking motivated early career engineers and physicists to join our research and development design team focused on custom, low-power, low-temperature, RF, quantum, analog and mixed signal ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits). Selected candidates will work in Northrop Grumman’s Superconducting ASIC design team supported by our local semiconductor foundry. Candidates will work closely with design leads as they develop into strong independent circuit design engineers. All work is performed in a Linux environment using state of the art computer aided design tools. Candidates will be exposed to many different disciplines and will have the opportunity to grow skills in these multitude of directions of the candidate’s choosing.

What You’ll Get to Do

Learn superconducting, quantum, design, and RF EM simulation techniques. Work closely with chip leads to understand and complete ASIC design tasks. Document and present weekly reports on design task status. You will use your skills as an Integrated Circuit (IC) designer while learning about superconducting circuit design in support of Northrop Grumman's advanced microelectronics applications business.

The right candidate will be comfortable in a dynamic environment with rapidly developing technologies and tools.  Successful candidates will be required to maintain an aggressive design schedule and contribute to work as a part of a team. This position will require candidates to work with product owners, design, fabrication, and test teams to assist in bringing impressive experiment ideas to reality. The most desirable candidates will be invested in continual learning and development of superconducting and quantum technologies and capabilities.

This position requires work on site in Northrop Grumman Baltimore, MD area facilities.

Basic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) degree.Coursework in electrical circuit network theory; basic understanding of passive and active circuit elements.Very strong attention to detail and organization.Strong problem solving, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.Able to collaborate with multiple team members and other teams to complete assigned tasks.Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance (US Citizenship is a requirement for this).

Preferred Qualifications:Overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.Prior internship or research experience in related field.Electrical computer aided design coursework including circuit schematic capture and spice simulation.Microwave engineering coursework; understanding of s-parameters and impedance matching techniques.Experience with Cadence Virtuoso or similar IC design software.An interest in superconductivity and advanced computing technology.Programming experience in Cadence SKILL or Python.Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph.

Salary Range:

Bachelor’s: $70,600 to $106,000

Master’s: $85,400 to $128,000

Salary Range: $70,600.00 - $106,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
