Major League Baseball (MLB) is seeking Data Operations seasonal personnel for the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Data Operations personnel are responsible for digitally scoring games from the ballpark, which provides the data used in the live content applications online, including Gameday, real-time highlights and text alerts, and by our business partners. This is a perfect part-time job for a responsible, computer-savvy person who happens to be a big baseball fan.
This is a seasonal role that requires regular onsite attendance at the ballpark. MLB does not provide any form of relocation assistance and you will be responsible for your transportation needs. Please apply for positions in the market where you are currently located.
Responsibilities:
Arrive at the ballpark no later than one hour prior to the scheduled start time Double-check and verify all pre-game information: rosters, umpires, weather conditions, etc. During the game, enter the results of every pitch and game event (plays, substitutions, etc.) using our proprietary software and coding language Work closely with our game-night support staff (via Slack) to ensure proper scoring of all game events and accuracy of data After the game, enter all post-game information and validate all stats and data in our scoring software against the official scoring box score. Participate in pre-season and in-season training when necessary and reasonably required Routine day-to-day correspondence via email, Slack, voice call and/or text message, to keep current with coverage schedules and other scheduled assignments. Other game-day responsibilities during Spring Training, the regular season and/or Postseason as determined by Data Operations supervisor(s).Qualifications and Skills:
Exceptional (and demonstrable) knowledge of the Official Baseball Rules, and especially Section 9 of OBR Effectively utilize approved online tools designed to enhance performance and communication with essential game personnel Ability to clearly communicate information via press box mic, and to effectively clarify Official Scoring Rules and scoring decisions, when necessary, to club officials and others Demonstrate good judgment on applicable plays requiring decisions Attention to detail in keeping a scorecard and tracking game totals for each player and team Strong computer proficiency (Windows OS, Windows-based software and Chrome browser) and the ability to quickly learn and operate new software Knowledge and use of Slack chat software Network connection management (Ethernet, Wi-Fi enabling/Disabling; test MAC Address) Previous experience (including press box exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball, is preferred. Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule: weekdays, nights and weekends A "team player" with a great attitude, including but not limited to a willingness to make and learn from mistakes and the ability to work closely and cooperatively (and take direction from) our game-night staff It is a fun job and we pay people to watch baseball, but it is also an important job and we want people who will take the responsibility seriously.Pay: $20.00 per hour
