2025 Graduate - Project Engineer
Description The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Facility Design and Construction (FDC) team. Located in Laurel, Maryland, midway between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC, with connections to regional commuter transportation on a 460-acrea campus with over four million square feet of facilities, APL is the largest university affiliated research center, provides U.S. government agencies with innovative solutions and expertise in support of national priorities and technology development programs. APL serves as independent trusted technical agents to the government, providing opportunities for highly complex, multigenerational technology development systems. As a Project Engineer in the Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) Group, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a highly unique, cross-disciplined owner and developer facility team. You will work with the Project Manager, and duties will include: Coordinating work design work done by in-house and outsourced Architects and Engineers Reviewing project drawings and specifications to confirm compliance with the contract Participating in project design and construction meetings to coordinate work Tracking project completion percentages by reviewing documents during design and assisting in assessing project completion in the field during construction Support the project Construction Manger by performing quality inspections, generating RFI’s, processing submittals and assisting in punch list activities Work with the Project Manager to implement project schedules, starting with design activities and proceeding through construction and close-out Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you: Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology or Construction Management. Knowledge of engineering principles Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel Ability to read and understand technical specifications, technical manuals, and engineering/architectural drawings Have the ability to collaborate on teams Have a passion for building team culture, driving innovation, and implementing strategic initiatives Possess excellent oral and written communication skills Are able to obtain Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you may be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. Performance of this job requires a valid state of residence driver's license. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
