2025 Intern - Physics: Quantum
Description Are you passionate about the future of quantum information science and its emergent impacts in computing, communications and sensing technologies? We seek talented students who can help us build new and exciting solutions to expand the state-of-the-art in quantum science. We pursue a variety of technical focuses that spans multiple physical quantum computing platforms, quantum sensing, and more. We believe in fostering an open, collaborative work environment and have opportunities across technical domains to allow for exploration. As a Quantum Intern in the REDD Physics Group, you may: Investigate quantum algorithms, characterization protocols or error correction and management approaches. Help craft experiments for cloud or in-house quantum systems, and report findings to internal technical teams. Support existing programs through building noise models of quantum systems, iterative data acquisition, and analysis. Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions. Qualifications You’ll meet our minimum requirements if you: Are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or a PhD in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Have experience in scientific computation using python or programming languages such as C/C++ and Java. Are passionate about and capable of learning new technologies and test methods. Work effectively in small, multi-disciplinary teams. Are a US citizen or permanent resident. Coursework or research experience in the field of quantum information science. Experience with high-performance computing or simulation methods relevant for quantum science. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
