Patent Legal Intern

Summary:

In-house patent professionals at biopharmaceutical companies are essential in developing and executing on strategies to protect medicines.  In this project, “Biomarker and Clinical Stage Patenting,” the patent legal intern will be focused on researching, reviewing, presenting, and applying key legal decisions and information related to biomarker and clinical stage pharmaceutical patents.  Together with our team of seasoned patent professionals, who are experts in patenting genetic medicines, the intern will prepare sections of biomarker and clinical stage patent applications and codify their summer’s research and work into a review of best practices and relevant case law at our internal professional development meeting.  The patent legal intern will have the opportunity to interact with our internal legal professionals, outside counsels, and internal research groups.

Requirements: 

MUST be currently enrolled in an accredited law school and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship MUST have an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, or a similar degree and an interest in pursuing a career in Intellectual Property law MUST be able to begin internship between 6/9 and 6/16/2025 MUST be able and willing to remain in the program through at least 8/15/2025 MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour workweek and work onsite in Carlsbad, CA. Prior admission to the USPTO patent bar is a plus Housing and travel assistance not provided for—local applicants with suitable transportation are preferred
