2025 PhD Software Engineer Intern (Cloud Security), United States
We're looking for Ph.D. students specializing in **Cloud Security** to intern during Summer 2025 (12 weeks). This role will focus on advancing our cloud security capabilities by applying deep expertise in securing cloud infrastructures, applications, and services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching and developing cutting-edge security solutions, identifying emerging threats, and helping to shape our cloud security strategy. **About the Team:** Uber's Cloud Security team builds platforms and processes to ensure the safety and security of all infrastructure and data in Uber's cloud environment. We own the full lifecycle of a secure resource in the cloud, from secure cloud resource provisioning to continuously detecting vulnerabilities and misconfigurations to existing resources and lastly, secure decommissioning of unused resources. **What You'll Do:** + Conduct advanced research on cloud security vulnerabilities, posture management, threat vectors, and countermeasures + Build cloud security graph with Uber business context and requirements, consolidate, quantify and construct attack path from identified vulnerabilities + Develop new security tools and hardening standards to safeguard cloud environments + Create ML models to assist in risk analysis and detections in cloud environment + Analyze and assess the security of cloud architectures and provide actionable recommendations + Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in cloud security and cybersecurity threats **Basic Qualifications** : + Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program studying Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field + Candidates should have at least one semester/quarter left of their education after finishing the internship + Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their security frameworks + Extensive experience with cloud security concepts, tools, and best practices + Familiarity with identity management, risk management, and compliance requirements + Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and think critically + Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams **Preferred** **Qualifications:** + Experience with cloud-native security tools and platforms + Familiar with CIS Benchmark Standards and NIST National Vulnerability Database + Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and services security + Published research or contributions to security-related conferences or journals For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base hourly rate amount for this role is USD$67.00 per hour.
