Department Summary
The Antibody Engineering Department leverages state-of-the-art approaches and technologies to discover and engineer antibody-based therapies to improve patient well-being. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented summer intern to join our dynamic and fast-paced environment to support this mission. The primary focus of this hands-on laboratory position will be to implement and apply molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to engineer and characterize antibodies for affinity, epitope, and other qualities. The successful candidate will work closely with Antibody Engineering scientists to deploy the above approaches to help inform broad, multi-functional efforts geared towards therapeutic development.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA, on-site.

Key Responsibilities

Apply protein engineering techniques for the alteration of antibody/protein binding interactions and improvement of other developability properties.

Use high-throughout biochemical techniques to rigorously characterize antibody properties (e.g. binding affinity, thermal stability, and target epitope).

Perform cell-based binding and functional screening assays.

Interface with colleagues within and outside of Antibody Engineering to understand and address program needs.

Develop oral and written science communication skills through presentation of key findings at internal meetings and in a poster session with colleagues.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-week, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June 2025.

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology, or related disciplines.

Required Skills:

Basic biochemistry and/or molecular biology lab skills.

Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint.

Excitement and enthusiasm to learn and develop protein engineering skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

Basic understanding of biochemical/biophysical concepts related to protein-protein interactions.

Competency with mammalian cell culture.

Experience analyzing and designing construct DNA and protein sequences.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $24.00- $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
