2025 Summer Intern – Manufacturing Tool and Die Engineer
Job Description

Work Arrangement:  

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned plant on a full-time basis.   

 

What You’ll Do:  

Our plants are the groundwork for GM and a hotbed of innovation. Interns to do hands-on work that could add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company. We need Tool and Die interns to assist skilled trade personnel in the operation and maintenance of specialist equipment. These tasks would teach you root causing analysis and mechanical problem solving as well as leadership skills to provide technical support. This is a hands-on position in which you may work with periodic repairs and provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades.  

 

Responsibilities may include:  

Interact with a medium to large group of skilled trade employees 

Analyze product, process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufacture 

Support preventative maintenance on new and existing tooling 

Implement best practices, lessons learned and support manufacturing innovations 

Troubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problems 

Assists in obtaining resources to effectively maintain and perform operations 

Stays ahead of current product, procedure and technical developments and trends in areas of manufacturing expertise (Stamping) 

Support/Lead project activity as required 

Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommend improvements to existing processes. 

 

Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to: 

Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. 

Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections. 

Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals. 

Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes. 

Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold). 

Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch and reach to perform work. 

Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs. 

Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:  

Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Machine Technology, or tool and die program 

Must be graduating between December 2025 and May 2028 

Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months 

Willing to work in a plant environment

Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust  

 

Start dates for this internship role are May and June of 2025.   

  

Compensation:  

The salary range for this role is $4,000 - $4,900 monthly, dependent upon class status and degree.  

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
