Department Summary
The laboratory of Aviv Regev, within Genentech Research and Early Development is seeking a highly talented and driven intern for experimental work to help with high content screens. The successful candidate will combine techniques in primary tissue culture, phenotyping by multiplexed imaging and single cell genomics to study diverse biological settings ranging from development, cancer biology and immunology. The candidate will collaborate in an interdisciplinary team including colleagues from within the Regev lab, Cellular and Tissue Genomics (CTG), Bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning departments.
This position is located in South San Francisco, on site.
The Opportunity
Engineer physiologically-relevant in vitro human or mouse cell models
Characterize models using single-cell multiomics, image-based phenotyping and other functional assays
Apply model systems in high-content perturbation screens with single-cell multiomics readout
Option to collaborate with computational scientists to train on analysis of high content perturbation/imaging/transcriptomics data
Contribute to high impact publications in high quality scientific journals and present at key internal meetings
Program Highlights
Intensive 6 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start date is flexible, ideally May/June.
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Work with some of the best experts in the biotechnology industry and contribute to the next generation of single cell genomics.
Who You Are
Required Education
You meet at least one of the following criteria:
Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program) OR
Must be pursuing a Master's degree OR
Must be pursuing a PhD.
Required Majors
Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related fields.
Required skills
Has a minimum of 1-2-3 years wet lab research experience.
Expertise in basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, immuno-labelling, cloning, etc.), along with knowledge on gene delivery (viral, non-viral) and genome editing.
Expertise with tissue culture.
Expertise with at least one of the following: imaging (widefield, confocal, or light-sheet), sequencing technologies, multi-color flow cytometry.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with human/mouse stem cell (e.g. iPSCs) and/or primary cell model systems.
Familiarity with image analysis and/or single-cell RNA-seq pipelines and data interpretation .

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $33.00 - $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
