2025 Summer Intern - Immunology and Regenerative Medicine

 

Department Summary

 

The Immunology and Regenerative Medicine Department is seeking a highly motivated, and talented summer intern to join us in discovery research in the area of inflammation. The selected candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research focusing on understanding the role of immune cells in tissue injury and regeneration in the context of homeostasis, aging, and disease. 

This is a hands-on laboratory position. The successful candidates will implement and apply molecular biology, biochemistry, and cellular immunology to elucidate disease pathways and validate therapeutic targets. 

 

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.  

 

The Opportunity

Generate organoid cultures containing epithelium, stroma and immune-cell populations to model the role of immune cells in tissue regeneration.

Use state of the art techniques to test the involvement of novel pathways and molecules in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases.

Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Genentech to enhance cross-functional cooperation and achieve research objectives.

 

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June (Summer) 

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are:

Required Education

Must be pursuing a PhD in immunology, developmental/stem cell biology, biochemistry or a related discipline.

 

Required skills:

Hands-on experience in cellular and molecular immunology techniques including primary cell isolation from tissues, in vitro immunological assays and multi-dimensional flow cytometry. 

Preferred Experience:

Background in lung biology and experience with imaging and histological techniques.

Experience in culturing 2D and 3D murine or human organoids and analysis of data from single cell or bulk RNA-seq is preferred.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of California is $50 an hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
