Department Summary

This position is offered in the Enzyme and Protein Engineering (EPE) department. We invent and develop reagents for the Roche nanopore sequencer and other diagnostic platforms.
 

As an intern in the EPE department, here is what you can expect:

Immersion in the fundamental and practical aspects of a novel nanopore sequencing technology.

Exposure to an innovative R&D environment within a leading global diagnostics company, including opportunities to engage directly with experimental sequencing applications and workflows.

Collaboration with an ambitious and vibrant group of colleagues, including other interns, from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines.

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, California, on-site.

The Opportunity

Design and execution of sequencing experiments utilizing Roche's nanopore sequencing platform.

Formulation and QC of sequencing and associated reagents according to both experimental and established SOPs.

Both wet and dry laboratory work performed using industry-standard practices, including maintenance of a well-organized and concise record of work performed and progress made. 

Deep analysis of experimental data using various quantitative and qualitative methods, with regular presentation of findings at internal meetings.

Presentation of your project work to senior leaders as a capstone poster and/or presentation.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Ownership of challenging and business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required):

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

Must have completed a minimum of 2 years of college or university (Required), with at least 1 full year of research experience (Preferred).

Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during the program calendar year 2025.

Required Majors: Biochemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Desire to join a high-performing team, get up to speed, and make a meaningful contribution.

Expertise working with Python, R, and Linux/Unix (bash) is a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  California is $30.00-$33.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
