Department Summary

Personalized Healthcare Solutions (PHCS) is central to Roche’s approach and has played a key role in our advancements across the patient journey. PHCS partners with Pharmaceutical companies to develop customized assays/solutions for value-based, outcome-driven therapeutic strategies. The

best oncology drugs in the world are most effective only when we link them to the right patients, at the right time. For over a decade, Roche has been at the forefront of personalized healthcare, working to support the medical field as it trends toward patient centricity.

This internship position is located in Tucson, Arizona, on-site.

The Opportunity

Work on novel tissue-based in vitro diagnostic assay development and image analysis on the stained slides from human tumor tissue specimens.

You will be involved in the reagent qualification and staining drift monitoring activities for a wide variety of IHC assays in the CAP CLIA lab using image analysis tools.

You will use brightfield microscopes and scanners to generate images from the stained slides.

You will organize, access, and digitally analyze the stained images in the image viewing platform.

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May (Summer)

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Bachelor of Science (BS), or Master of Science (MS) student in the area of biomedical sciences, and/or biomedical engineering related fields.

Required Skills: 

A passion for improving the clinical lab’s workflow to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

Self-motivated, self-disciplined and ability to work independently.

Ability to perform fast prototyping and testing iterations and thinking outside the box to solve practical problems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

Solid knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desired:

- tissue morphology;

- use of image analysis platforms;

- data analysis.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  Arizona is $20-$35 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
