The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Platform Development Instrumentation

Digital Pathology Instruments and Systems Engineering team specializes in the design, development and production of Digital Pathology slide scanners. Our reliable and high quality slide scanners provide high-resolution images that pathology labs can trust. The primary responsibilities of the team revolves around developing innovative opto-electromechanical instrument with intuitive software workflow that produce high quality scans and provide consistent, reproducible images with a low rescan rate.

This team interfaces with all levels of the company and collaborates with engineering, software, marketing, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, regulatory, service, and contract manufacturer as well as other cross-functional teams. This team also manages testing and qualifying of systems to verify they meet design requirements and industry standards.

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site.

The Opportunity

Contribute to the design, build and test of a proof of concept test automation project to support existing released software product

Opportunities to work on mechanical and electrical prototyping dependent on project progress

Opportunities to work on quality improvement projects that directly impact existing released software product dependent on project progress 

Collaborate cross functionally with other teams/engineers on planning and execution of tasks

Provide support to software developer, mechanical engineer and systems engineer

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors:

Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science or related field.

Required Skills:

Strong verbal and written skills, and be able to write documentation and reports in a structured format.

Comfortable operating sophisticated computer and instrumentation equipment/hardware.

Basic engineering laboratory skills.

Programming experience in C/C++, Matlab, Python, or other programming languages.

Experience with working with Raspberry Pi or Arduino electronic boards.

Knowledge of test protocols development, optomechanical design and assembly, electromechanical assembly.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of  California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
