2025 Summer Intern - Prescient Design, Machine Learning Drug Discovery
Department Summary
Prescient Design is seeking exceptional graduate interns with a strong research background in machine learning (ML), a passion for independent research and technical problem-solving, and a proven ability to develop and implement ideas from research. Our mission is to leverage cutting-edge ML methods to design novel molecules. We apply state-of-the-art ML techniques to drug discovery, and conduct fundamental research in ML to push the boundaries and deepen understanding. See our Google Scholar page for recent publications. Intern candidates should have a strong interest in algorithmic development for 3D generative models and novel mechanisms for guided and controllable generation.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA, on site.
The Opportunity
Participate in cutting-edge research in ML, 3D generative models, and applications and drug discovery
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver an impactful, business-critical project
Develop well-documented code to facilitate adoption of the method
Present results in the form of a publication, for submission to internal and external scientific conferences
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are
Required Education
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Required Major: Computer Science, Engineering Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Physics, or related technical field
Required Skills
Strong publication record and experience contributing to research communities, including conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, etc.
Strong software development skills in Python and experience with PyTorch
Experience with one or more of the following: PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX
Preferred Skills
Curiosity and deep interest in solving hard problems
Experience with one or more of the following: 3D generative models, such as diffusion models, 3D geometry, computer vision architectures, or graph neural networks
Experience in maintaining or contributing to open-source projects for research
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
