Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; Policy, Evidence & Access Strategy; and External Affairs. Evidence for Access (E4A) is seeking a summer intern to support our work in Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR). E4A applies diverse technical, clinical and business expertise to generate data to demonstrate the value propositions of our medicines, and that support evidence-based care decisions for optimal patient outcomes and experiences.

The intern should have a solid technical foundation in health economics and outcomes research, and be able to independently conduct HEOR research projects, including economic modeling, real world data research and patient-reported outcomes research. This individual will also work collaboratively with internal data scientists to conduct HEOR to support one or more disease areas or molecules, and present results to key stakeholders.

The intern will also be encouraged to gain cross-functional experience across Public Affairs & Access to better understand how we leverage our communications, market access, government affairs, and externally-facing capabilities to drive impact for our patients, our people, and our communities where we live and work. Interns will have peer-to-peer support, networking opportunities, and career development opportunities with other interns in Public Affairs & Access as well as throughout Genentech. 

This internship position is located in SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, On-site.   

The Opportunity

E4A is looking for an intern to help develop and translate methods and technologies to support meaningful scientific exchanges for improved patient access. As part of a cross-functional team, you will contribute to the generation of scientific evidence to demonstrate the value of Genentech and its products and to projects designed to study and measure health system performance through health services research.

Engage in a variety of activities, including development of study descriptions, data analysis plans, abstracts and manuscripts.

Read and synthesize literature regarding a specific disease, medical, or policy intervention.

Gain hands-on experience in designing, developing and communicating health economic models.

Work independently, with direction and mentoring from manager and other peers to clarify directions and expand knowledge and skills.

Receive one-to-one training on the technical aspects of the role while learning about project management and effective communication

Apply research methodologies to develop and evaluate data to support evidence needs for our products.

Manage analyses that provide information on the costs and benefits of medical interventions to support product and market development, reimbursement

Contribute  to design and execution of primary and secondary observational studies and economic models with support from collaborators.

Develop in-depth understanding of US health care systems, policies, and the payer environment.

Assess external landscape and work with internal stakeholders to identify evidence gaps in response to current or proposed policy.

Able to pull through evidence generated through HEOR projects into publications and other promotional or reactive materials.

Able to develop therapeutic area knowledge and expertise

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education. You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a Master's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a PhD.

Required Majors: Pharm-D, MPH/MS/PhD; Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Public Policy, Health Services Research, Health Outcomes Research, or other related disciplines.

Required Skills: 

Experience and coursework in economic modeling, multivariate methods, study design, domestic healthcare systems and public policy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $35-$45 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
