Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; Policy, Evidence & Access Strategy; and External Affairs. Our mission is to drive positive change in the healthcare system so that every patient can access our science. Managed Care Contracts is seeking a summer intern to support our work in developing, negotiating, and executing managed care contracts to enable patient access to Genentech products. The intern will also be encouraged to gain cross-functional experience across Public Affairs & Access to better understand how we leverage our communications, market access, government affairs, and externally-facing capabilities to drive impact for our patients, our people, and our communities where we live and work. Interns will have peer-to-peer support, networking opportunities, and career development opportunities with other interns in Public Affairs & Access as well as throughout Genentech. 

This is a paid internship and is located in South San Francisco, CA - On-site

The Opportunity

Managed Care Contracts is looking for an intern to join our dynamic team to assist MCC’s transition to a novel technology platform that will enhance efficiency and reporting capabilities. Specifically, the intern will:

Assist in gathering, distilling, and sharing insights and reports generated from the new system, focusing on tasks such as documenting specific contract language in spreadsheets;

Measure the time savings and efficiency improvements for MCC resulting from the adoption of the new technology; and

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the contracting process from account strategy and development through contracting and negotiation, while also gaining exposure to various departments within Public Affairs & Access.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in June and are as follows:

June 2, 2025

June 16, 2025

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:  

Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree.

Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

Must have attained a Master's Degree.

Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Must have attained a PhD. 

Preferred Majors: Legal Studies, Paralegal, JD Program, Business, Communications, Statistics

Required Skills:

Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software

Excellent communication skills - ability to convey information clearly, listen effectively, and ask appropriate questions 

Aptitude for problem-solving and innovative and critical thinking to challenge the status quo

Outstanding time management and organization skills 

Preferred Skills:

Contract drafting and analysis experience

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  California is $23-$45 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
