2025 Summer Intern - Security and Compliance

Department Summary

The Genentech Computational Sciences Department (gCS) is building a next-generation data collection application for our high-throughput lab acquisition systems (such as microscopes, sequencers, and robots) with the goal of making more biological knowledge available to our researchers, including biologists and machine learning engineers.  

As part of a collaboration between the Roche IT Security and Privacy Doman teams, we are searching for a motivated intern to work on risk assessments (vendor and system) to identify potential security and privacy gaps. Create AI Bot to replace vendor assessments and gSITE help.

The candidate will work as part of a team furthering our efforts to improve the security and privacy compliance for gCS systems and vendors. 

This job is located on-site in South San Francisco, CA.

The Opportunity

Work directly with project coordinator and team members to document risk assessments.

Participate in training as necessary.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing an Associate's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.

Required Majors:

Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields.

  Required Skills:

Proficiency in Google Suite programs.

Experience with desktop operating systems and operating system services.

Experience with computer programming.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Experience with security tools.

Experience with ServiceNow.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of  California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
