Where You Will Work    

 

Freeport-McMoRan is a leading international metals company with global headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in accounting and finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, engineering, and more. Our hybrid internship program allows interns to work virtually as well as come together in person regularly at our Colorado locations. Interns participating in our hybrid internship program will be expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance – 50 miles one-way – of the company’s offices to ensure availability when meeting attendance/collaboration is needed. Interns living more than 50 miles away would be required to relocate and would be eligible for travel and housing assistance. 

Description

Under general supervision, assists with variety of potential projects (depending upon specific assignment). 

Assisting in researching best practices and benchmarking corporate social responsibility programs, standards and policies Assisting the Social Responsibility and Community Development Team in the development of an improved system and procedure for tracking and reporting social investment expenditures globally Supporting ongoing programs such as the Native American Scholarship Program, the DreamBuilder and DreamCatcher women’s entrepreneurship training programs, and school outreach programs Assist in partner research related to new program development Supporting the development of communications materials (flyers, newsletter stories, fact sheets, presentations, etc.) as well as a social media communications plan and accompanying procedures/processes for the department to work in partnership with the Corporation Communications department Collecting/compiling information and program examples from the company’s global sites related to key global social initiatives such as education, women’s development, economic empowerment, and climate change adaptation Assisting in the development of standard advertisements to be used for community outreach purposes on key topics Assisting with the development and implementation of various employee engagement initiatives (employee volunteerism, United Way campaign, community event sponsorships, etc.) Providing support on other department tasks as needed/requested Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Full-time student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university majoring in an appropriate Social Sciences discipline or closely related field, OR Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in Social Sciences discipline or closely related field Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written, in English  Strong analytical skills  Ability to work on projects independently

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity and knowledge of Native American Tribes in the 4 corners area (especially Tribes that have aboriginal ties to present day Colorado) Knowledge of Native American cultural heritage, traditions, and history

 

Criteria/Conditions:

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws

Compensation:

 

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $25.75-$32.25/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.

Freeport-McMoRan has reviewed the jobs at its various office and operating sites and determined that many of these jobs require employees to perform essential job functions that pose a direct threat to the safety or health of the employees performing these tasks or others.
