Your Responsibilities
As a Sr. Product Engineer-VD&V for John Deere in Grovetown, GA, you will:
Plans, coordinates, performs analysis and simulation work for a complete project of broad scope or for a significant portion or a sub-system of a major and diverse project to virtually verify and validate product design specifications for tractors and their attachments Operates in a team environment and act as lead person, providing technical leadership and design solutions Assign, coordinate and review portions of the work to other engineers and support personnel Coach and mentor team members with diverse culture. Increase the execution and efficiency of product verification activities Develop data analytics methods and tools to unlock customer duty cycles and use cases Project work is applied to compact utility tractors and their implements Tractor forms are highly configurable with implements that include backhoe, box blade, mower decks and front end loader. These implements have different customer duty cycles that affect the durability of the tractor and implement This role plans, coordinates and performs structural simulations of the product in customer use cases to evaluate design proposals and prototyping to improve the mechanical durability of utility tractors and their implements Up to 10% domestic and international travel required. Must live within normal commuting distance of the worksite. 1 day of remote work allowed.
What Skills You Need
4 years of experience in application of FEA tools (including Ansys, Abaqus or Altair) and CAD manipulation/preparation tools to aid design and verify product durability to requirements Experience working through a minimum of 3 new product development programs by performing virtual design verification for geometry, contact, bolted joints, material non-linearity, resolving nonconvergence issues and using cloud computing tools to expedite analysis solutions Experience in identifying at least 2 of the following failure mechanisms and correlating with an FE-model: fatigue crack origination, overload, mis-assembly, secondary failure mechanisms, kinematic mechanism malfunction through inspections from field and test data/experience Experience in developing at least 2 simulation methods that eliminated test, communized simulation with test or resulted in publications (internal or external) Experience using nCode GlyphWorks to process data to create new duty cycles and gain key insights into test and simulation methods for a minimum of 5 projects and 5 glyphs 4 years of experience coaching global team of product development engineers (offshore and US based) to efficiently verify designs meet requirements using simulation and test 3 years of experience in predicting fatigue life using nCode Design Life or FE-Safe for variable amplitude duty cycles using strain life methods Experience managing and control a backlog list (at least 15 backlog items) of simulation work, including delegating work to global team members and contingent/contractors
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 4 years related experience.
