30 hp-Analysing & understanding part number costs over its entire lifecycle

Depending on what part types a designer is developing, the cost will vary quite substantially.

Degree project is an excellent way to get closer contact with Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania careers with their degree projects.


Background:

Scania has a long history of developing and producing high quality products, that create high value for our customers. We have our strategic thinking model as a base for everything we do. One of Scanias key success factors are our modular system, that has been developed over our 130+ years that we have been in business. Although we have a modular system and toolbox, we still have a vast number of parts that we fill our toolbox with.


Objective:

Having a modular toolbox with thousands of different parts, it is essential to understand what drives cost for different types of parts. The purpose of this thesis work is to analyse how different part types drives cost in the whole flow from when the part number is created until it is discontinued in production and on the aftermarket. The range can be anything from in house produced casted iron parts, Soft Ware to supplier delivered cable harnesses.

Assignment description: The work is an analysis and evaluation of cost regarding the entire lifecycle of parts – clarify current situation and recommendation for future actions.


Education:

Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent. The degree project is aimed at students with knowledge corresponding to specializations such as Integrated Product Development, Environmental and Sustainability, Vehicle Technology or similar. Industrial Economics


Number of students: 2
Individual application or in pairs. Preferably with profiles from both specializations in the areas of integrated product development and Environmental and Sustainability engineering
Start date: January 2025
Estimated time: 20 weeks (30 credits).
