Introduction
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.
Background
SCANIA is undergoing a transformation from a traditional supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to a provider of complete and sustainable transport solutions. As part of this initiative, we seek a motivated and technically proficient master's thesis candidate to investigate the potentials of additive manufacturing (AM) within the final assembly of trucks. This research aims to enhance our production processes and drive innovation in manufacturing technologies.
Objective
The purpose of this thesis work is to analyze the feasibility and potential benefits of implementing additive manufacturing technologies in the production of tools and aids for truck assembly, with a focus on cost savings, lead time reductions, and sustainability.
Job description
Evaluate the feasibility of utilizing additive manufacturing for production tools and aids within final assembly. Investigate cost savings and lead time reductions associated with AM technologies. Conduct a comparative analysis of traditional manufacturing methods versus additive manufacturing. Benchmark against other SCANIA production units employing AM and identify best practices. Develop a framework for integrating AM into production processes. Explore material and process optimization for specific applications. Assess the environmental impact of AM compared to traditional methods. Create an implementation plan for integrating AM into the production process. Propose a training program for staff on using and maintaining AM equipment. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor AM integration effectiveness
