We are looking for a candidate for the master thesis project (30 hp) related to theoptical characterization of lidars and cameras.
Project description:
The recent progress in nanotechnology allows significant miniaturization of the electro-optical devicesand their wider accessibility for commercial applications. As an example, it can be mentioned Lidar andcamera, which lately become widely used in the automotive industry, particularly in the autonomousvehicles. At Scania such devices are already used in the autonomous trucks. However, any applicationof a new device requires extensive environmental tests to ensure its reliability and correct functionalityin entire lifetime of the vehicle. Therefore, the aim of this project is to build a modern setup to testfunctionality of the Lidars and cameras during- or after the exposition of the device to variousenvironmental conditions..
The project includes design and construction of an optical systemto measure the specific parameters of the laser beam and theimage quality for the lidar and camera respectively. The selectionof the exact parameters will be evaluated during the project. Therefore, the project is very flexible where different methodsand solutions of the setups can be tested. In some cases, dedicated software from the supplier of the device will be used torecord the data. However, the final setup will requireprogramming (Matlab, LabView) for data acquisition, numericalanalyses and to control the measurement process.
The project will be carried out at Scania Technical Center inSödertälje in the environmental verification lab.
