Job Description Summary
As a 3rd Class Power Engineer, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, safe and efficient operation of all equipment under utilities and services including the boilers and steam system, refrigeration engine rooms (plant and cold storage) and freeze tunnels, working under supervision. In addition, you will be responsible for assisting the maintenance department with the repair, maintenance, safe and efficient operation of rooftop air handling units.

Always maintain and promote safe work practicesObserve pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panels to verify specified operation of the automatic combustion control system, feed water regulators, burners, and automatic refrigeration system.Be responsive to Management, Superintendents, Production Team Leaders, coworkers, and other Team Leaders regarding safety concerns, optimization of production line efficiencies, and product quality. Including coordination on changes in steam requirements and refrigeration requirements to help ensure maximum plant productivity.Possess thorough knowledge and compliance with the PSM (Process Safety Management) programWork with Supervisory staff and safety committees to develop and implement safety improvements.Have thorough knowledge of the location and operation of all related gauges, measuring equipment, and control equipment.Observe boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions.Observe and adjust the refrigeration system and associated equipment.Analyze and treat boiler feed water.Maintain logs of meter and gauge readings, and record data such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed.Communicate boiler operations needs with production and maintenance departments, assuring safety requirements are met.Have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including lockout-tag-out procedures and chemical hazards.Understand and follow all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).Coordinate with production supervisory personnel.Fill out, maintain, and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.Clean boiler and refrigeration rooms as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies as well as a high-pressure water hose.)Notify supervisors and sanitation leaders when repair work in the production area is completed.Complete all company-provided and required trainingOperate & locate important safety equipment, systems and stationsUnderstand and use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Complete the company training program outline for this positionDemonstrate thorough knowledge of and compliance with all regulations and Company policies as pertinent to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Power Engineers Regulations and directives from the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA). EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Interprovincial 3rd Class Power Engineer certificate.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before management, supervisors and fellow co-workers within the facility.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and mathematics required to calculate interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and all power engineer requirements.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.CLASSIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
