4-H Educator - Morrisville, NY
The 4-H Educator serves as a member of the 4-H Youth Development Team to assist with delivery, evaluation, planning, and management of the 4-H Youth Development programs. The 4-H Educator interacts with the public through group delivery of programs and through individual club activities. The 4-H Educator assists the Program Leader in activities to foster 4-H youth development throughout Madison County utilizing best practices and the integration of new tools and materials. This position will provide educational programs in the assigned subject matter areas and combine innovative and traditional approaches to provide Animal Science, STEM, Ag, Horticultural and traditional 4-H programming.

    

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and 2 years of transferable program experience.

1 year of related experience.

Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.

Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.

Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

4-H and youth development experience.

Animal science background with equine.

Knowledge and experience in a non-formal education system such as Cooperative Extension.

1 year experience working with volunteers and volunteer management.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Program Delivery – 70%

Teach and coordinate established activities related to 4-H and Youth Development programming as defined, utilizing a variety of proven educational methodologies and established materials.

Implement existing 4-H programming to include, but not limited to, 4-H Explorer’s Club, Animal Science Programs, the Madison County Fair, the New York State Fair, and 4-H County, District, and State special events.

Serve as a 4-H Youth Development resource for staff and participants, community organizations and the general public.

Foster acceptance of program, methods and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

Assist in providing educational program efforts via social media and multi-media efforts.

May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver program.

May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of statewide Plan of Work.

Program Evaluation – 10%

Implement program evaluation as designed.

Interact with program participants to obtain their evaluation of programs.

Based on established program parameters, interpret evaluation data for funders.

Assist with the analysis of collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure and methods.

Assist in making recommendations for program improvement.

Administrative Direction – 5%

Assist in the planning of major 4-H programs and events.

Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.

Provide input to the communications strategy based on program needs.

Assist supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.

Administrative Management – 5%

Assist supervisor with volunteer recruitment and management.

Provide guidance to volunteers and co-workers performing similar work.

Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within the 4-H Youth Development Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.

Implement the existing volunteer enrollment and selection process.

Administrative Coordination/Operation – 5%

Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Club Programming.

Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.

Assist in the preparation of program expense vouchers.

Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media and multi-media efforts.

Maintain effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.

Provide moderately complex administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals.

Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

Recruit program participants and volunteers.

Transport self and materials to program delivery sites as needed.

Professional Improvement – 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

 Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. 

Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and perform other duties as assigned.

 Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week) , benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Compensation paid in the range of $21.00 - $22.00 per hour.
