Overview and Responsibilities:
The CBS News team is hiring a 403g Technician! This position is responsible for editing stories for 60 Minutes. This role will use Avid Media Composer to edit magazine-style stories, roughly 12 minutes in length, and will include stories on a wide range of topics, including politics, health, crime, finance, culture, entertainment and more! The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment and work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Scrupulous attention to detail, a cool head under pressure, and excellent communication skills are important to be successful in this role.
Responsibilities Include:
Collaborate with producers and associate producers in storytelling, context, and fairness. Craft compelling stories ranging from newsmakers to profiles to features. Become immersed in interviews and B-roll and provide the creative spark for a story. Build work that is polished, smooth and graceful. Direct correspondents during narration sessions. Edit additional story-related material for social media and web. Maintain the highest ethical standards for use of picture and sound. Consult with camera crews prior to shoots when needed. Work professionally and respectfully under acute deadline pressure. Stay current with new recording formats and file delivery and adhere to 60 Minutes media management and archiving policies. Basic Qualifications:
10+ years’ experience of expert level editing skills on Avid Media Composer is required. 10+ years’ experience editing magazine-style pieces is required. Experience with Adobe Media Encoder and Photoshop is required. Additional Qualifications:
Familiarity with remote editing through Leostream, ZCentral Remote Boost or similar software. Knowledge of current events (incl. politics, sports, pop culture, music) is helpful. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and time management. Able to interact and collaborate professionally and respectfully with production team (from executive producer to interns). Skills in troubleshooting technical issues. Ability to complete editing assignments on strict deadlines.
