Develop educational plan of academic courses, which help students achieve their intended educational goal. Assist currently enrolled students with identifying their educational and career goals to the extent the student can develop an educational plan to achieve their goal. Provide students with the resources and support to succeed in obtaining the education and training that will help them reach their educational goals. Review degree plans and advise students with academic, developmental and probationary concerns. Be a liaison to college departments and off campus resources. Maintain accurate record of student interactions. Work collaboratively with other advisors and staff in developing specialized programs for student’s academic development. Serve as a resource for faculty and part time advisors on office procedures and academic advising related matters. Assist with registration and student service activities as needed. Interact with parents and guardians of students while ensuring the students FERPA rights are protected. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. 1-3 related experience. Minimum Competencies Minimum Competencies Ability to travel to all Blinn College locations, as needed Attend required and/or necessary software, state and federal trainings for updates. Strong analytical and organization skills combined with careful attention to detail. Self-motivated and goal oriented, team player. Computer literacy and ability to learn proprietary software Experience with virtual meetings using TEAMS and Zoom. Experience with Office products (Word, Excel) Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and complex long- and short-range concurrent planning. Strong commitment to quality customer service. Ability to work overtime during peak activity periods. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of college records and student information. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications A master’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant training and responsible experience. Advising experience at the college level. Preferred Competencies Preferred Competencies Experience working with Banner and Ellucian products, Degree Works. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to work effectively in a group and one on one with students. Working Conditions Are there particular working conditions associated with this job that should be noted (I.E., working environment, hours of work, workspace, etc.)? Yes If 'Yes', please explain The Office of Academic Advising is expected to remain open during the office hours as posted on the Blinn College website of Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. On occasion student advising may exceed the normal work hours and the Academic Advisor is expected to remain on the premise until the student(s) is finished with their advising session.
In addition, the Office of Academic Advising hosts different Student Service events which may take place after hours and/or on a Saturday which is considered a non-work day. Staff members of Academic Advising may be asked to work after hours and on a non-work day.
