Summary\:
 
Reporting to the Assistant Dean and working under limited guidance, the Academic Advisor II advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule, choice of major, number of hours that may be taken, probation, and/or suspension.  Contact may be on individual or group basis.  May provide direction, guidance, and project supervision to less experienced staff.  Works with faculty, staff, and students to disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise.  Meets regularly with assigned students to discuss academic and professional goals.  Prepares and presents student orientation selections and registration activities.
 
The focus is on academic advising and curriculum planning with students in an individual or group setting.  This involves the development, coordination, and implementation of educational counseling services geared to achieving, maintaining, or improving student success and retention.  The Advisor provides access to information and resources for the achievement of academic, career, and personal goals.  Acts as an advocate and referral source and provides consistent outreach and follow-up services. Periodically participates in specific school/college initiatives in addition to cross functional student services initiatives e.g. risk initiatives, student athlete liaison, ROTC liaison, veteran’s liaison, etc.
 
Represents school/college at various related internal and external meetings and events and helps to position Temple and advising as highly respected and proactive.  Helps to facilitate communication of the vision, mission, policies and procedures, and academic goals of the School and Temple University while assisting with their development and implementation. Coordinates advising with career planning.  Will plan, design, and provide a series of academic strategies/activities and enrichment programming that will enhance the student’s experience and create a since of belonging
 
Meets regularly with students in STHM’s 3 undergraduate majors\:  Sport & Entertainment Management, Tourism, Hospitality, & Event Management, and Multidisciplinary Studies in Sport, Tourism, & Hospitality Management.  Provides information and support regarding curriculum requirements, academic policies and procedures, and academic standing. Maintains student records, performing regular audits to ensure progression and pre-degree clearance.  Creates reports and data summaries on student information for the Assistant Dean and Center for Student Services Director.
 
Works closely with faculty, staff and students to review, implement and communicate information regarding College and University curriculum requirements, academic policies, and other related issues as they arise. Reviews academic transcripts, placement exams and student files in preparation for new student orientation.  Delivers presentations during new student orientation and change of program sessions.
 
 
Assists in undergraduate recruitment, admitted student events, and graduation and convocation planning. Assists in the development, implementation, and management of student success initiatives for targeted groups such as\:  student athletes, international students, veterans, etc. Teaches a one credit freshman seminar in fall semester. May oversee a student professional organization or honor society.
 
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience\:
Master’s degree with at least one year and six months related experience with at least six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Experience working with student information systems and managing projects.
 
Required Skills & Abilities\:
*Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff
*Strong oral/written communication skills and demonstrated ability to conduct presentations to large groups.
*Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
*Ability to independently manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
*Knowledge and use of personal computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
*Ability to work nights and/or weekends as necessary.  
*Ability to travel to offsite locations that may not be accessible to public transportation as needed.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
