Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Director of Student Success Programs at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University, the Academic Coach plays a vital role in supporting student success programs. The Academic Coach is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and execution of institution-wide academic success and intervention strategies catered to the diverse needs of undergraduate students. The focus is on creating a high-touch retention outreach framework, specifically tailored to support undergraduate students, including first-generation and at-risk populations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop a comprehensive, high-touch retention outreach framework centered on academic coaching, offering personalized support to designated student cohorts.

Design and execute retention programs and drive outreach initiatives to bolster student success.

Monitor the progression of the student body towards degree completion and graduation, devise targeted interventions to enhance retention and graduation rates.

Conduct a thorough analysis of student data, evaluate outcomes, and utilize data-driven insights to refine retention programs and services.

Develop first-generation student services, events, and initiatives.

Design post-admission student success initiatives and retention services, custom-tailored to at-risk student populations.

Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to identify at-risk students and implement proactive support measures.

Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions aimed at improving academic skills, time management, and study habits for students.

Provide one-on-one coaching sessions to students, focusing on academic goal-setting, motivation, and overcoming challenges.

Coordinate with other student support services, such as advising and counseling, to ensure a holistic approach to student success.

Participate in campus-wide committees and initiatives related to student retention and success.

Assist in the development and implementation of early alert systems to identify and support students who may be at risk of academic failure.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

A minimum of three years of experience in providing academic support to college-level students.

Demonstrated proficiency in working with diverse and at-risk populations in higher education, particularly first-generation college students.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and technical aptitude.

Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse student body and professional staff.

Familiarity with technology platforms such as Colleague, Canvas, Starfish, EAB Navigate, and online survey software.

PREFERRED:

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Proficiency in a second language.

Demonstrates exemplary leadership and interpersonal skills.
