Job Description
Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, the incumbent is responsible for coaching designated football student-athletes on strategies for academic success and graduation. The majority of time will be spent working with those student-athletes who have greater academic risk indicators, specifically new student-athletes and those with lower grade point averages. This position will perform the duties and responsibilities listed below while ensuring strict adherence to NCAA and Big-12 rules and regulations, as well as policies and procedures of Arizona State University, the Department of Sun Devil Athletics and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties
Academic Coaching Duties & ResponsibilitiesCoordinate academic policies, procedures & deadlines with designated sport coaches, administrators and teams.Counsel and direct student-athletes toward college services to assist in quality academic decision-making (i.e. major advising, student academic success programming, career services, etc) and to support their personal development and well-being (counseling and consultation).Facilitate mandatory advising.Ensure all student athletes meet with Academic/Major advisors each semester and enroll in recommended courses.Assist students in creating schedules around practice, meetings and travel schedules. Review schedules for any travel conflicts in season.Order textbooks for designated student-athletes.Attend team academic meetings covering deadlines & student-athlete responsibilities.Missed class due to travel, academic integrity, OSAD and ASU Academic Support programs, and Championship Life events.Create and distribute missed class letters for competition.Communicate academic messages through Teamworks platform as needed.Assist incoming student-athletes in their transition into the institution: ASU orientations, initial advising appointments, OSAD new student-athlete orientation, etc..Facilitate all incoming academic assessments/surveys and ensure completion. Integrate information into individual academic support plans.Evaluate student-athletes academic risk (incoming and returning) at the beginning and end of each semester.Create individual academic support plans for all academically at-risk student-athletes. Modify support plans as necessary during the semester (based on academic performance/grades) to support continued student success.Provide or assist student-athletes in securing necessary academic support (tutors, academic mentors, etc.).Mentor and/or tutor students as necessary.Monitor student-athlete academic performance at identified intervals determined by level of academic risk (daily, weekly, etc). Input all performance feedback in designated systems for review.Provide timely, accurate and regular academic progress reports to designated staff.Academic Mentoring- this position will support a caseload of academically at-risk student-athletes.Provide daily academic support/mentoring to student-athletes.Oversee and monitor all tutoring or mentoring sessions provided by part-time/graduate assistant staff.Collaborate and support Learning Specialists working with football student-athletes.Ensure daily progress with all students and adherence to deadlines.Graduation Planning. Assist student-athletes in preparing and annually re-evaluating an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).Assist with communication for Championship Life, SDA and relevant ASU programming and events.NCAA Eligibility. Closely monitor and track student-athlete NCAA degree progress. Includes evaluating course schedule, managing drop/add of courses during the semester, and end of term eligibility reviews ensuring strict compliance with each student's eligibility requirements.Recruiting presentations. Assist/lead presentations on ASU and Student-Athlete Development to prospective student-athletes and their families as requested.Assist with OSAD Football Guest Coaching program.Provide tours, presentations, outreach to campus, etc. at home football games.Some travel may/will be required with sports teams during competition season. This will include running team study halls as necessary.Programming ResponsibilitiesWhile the primary focus of this role will be on Academic Coaching, the position will also involve responsibilities related to life skills programming, with specific duties to be determined.The role may require evening work during the semester to support these initiatives.Assist with New Student-Athlete Orientations.Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in the program of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualificiations
Evidence of a master's degree in a related field is preferred.Evidence of effective communication skills.Experience in work that requires attention to detail, organization and coordination.Demonstrated experience in academic program coordination at collegiate level.Demonstrated experience in working with student-athletes in an academic advising capacity at collegiate level.Demonstrated experience providing one-on-one academic support to at-risk student-athletes at the collegiate level.Demonstrated experience in monitoring student-athletes progress towards degree with regards to university requirements and NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Working knowledge of NCAA academic degree requirements.Demonstrated experience in NCAA rules and regulations.Demonstrated experience in relating effectively with students, coaches, staff members and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.Demonstrated experience in class scheduling and registration processes.Demonstrated experience in creating individual academic support plans and graduation plans.Demonstrated experience with Degree Audits (e.g. DARS) for academic purposes.Demonstrated experience in work that required conducting self with uncompromising integrity, exercising sound judgment and handling sensitive, confidential information with discretion, according to FERPA guidelines.Demonstrated experience creating and implementing student-athlete development/life skills programs.Demonstrated experience presenting to groups.
