Monday, Thursday; 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Hours adjusted based on institutional and student needs
Pay/Salary: $52,000 - $55,109
Summary
Academic Counselors serve as advocates for students' academic and personal well-being. Counselors address a wide range of concerns, from disability accommodations to academic challenges and mental health crises, ensuring students have the support they need to thrive. They assess students' needs and goals to create tailored support plans, collaborating with faculty, family, and administrators to foster a supportive environment that promotes program completion and personal growth.

What You'll Do:
Responsibilities of the Academic Counselor include, but are not limited to:
+ Provide short-term individual and group counseling to address students' academic, emotional, and social challenges, ensuring appropriate referrals for long-term support as needed.
+ Develop and monitor Student Success Plans with measurable goals for students who do not meet academic standards, offering tailored guidance and support.
+ Actively participate in the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process to identify students in need and design targeted interventions.
+ Facilitate conflict resolution by fostering constructive dialogue to support a positive learning environment.
+ Provide timely and effective crisis support and interventions, including availability outside regular work hours when necessary.
+ Design and deliver classroom lessons and workshops on topics such as suicide prevention, study skills, mental health awareness, and time management.
+ Advocate for students by facilitating access to resources, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their voices are heard.
+ Monitor student performance and attendance, initiating proactive interventions to enhance retention and success rates while ensuring policy compliance.
+ Oversee compliance with Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act by evaluating and organizing appropriate accommodations. Ensure adherence to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
+ Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and institutional committees to stay informed and contribute to continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For:
+ Master's degree in counseling, education, behavioral science, or a related field; OR active enrollment in a graduate program in one of these areas.
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly with cultural competence and inclusivity, including engaging in public speaking or group facilitation.
+ Proficiency in maintaining detailed and accurate notes, progress reports, and documentation.
+ Demonstrated empathy, problem-solving, conflict resolution abilities, and adaptability to changing priorities.
+ Effective collaboration and team-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
+ Two letters of recommendation are required.
