THE POSITION: Appointed by and reports to the Department Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health. The Residency Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to training residents in each of the ACGME competency areas and in conformance with hospital and GME policies and procedures. The Program Director is responsible to the Designated Institutional Official, the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and to the ACGME’s Residency Review Committee for the timely and accurate completion of all tasks and their quality related to the residency program. The Program Director's duties include oversight of Education, GME Governance, Compliance with Regulatory Requirements, and Maintenance of Accreditation.
THE CANDIDATE: The candidate will be responsible for the success of the overall program and be provided with authority and accountability of the overall program, including compliance with all applicable program requirements. The candidate must have current certification in the specialty for which they are the program director by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) or by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, or specialty
qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee, current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment and ongoing clinical activity. The candidate must have the specialty expertise and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience, or qualifications acceptable to the Review Committee
Responsibilities include:
The Program Director must have a responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation, and promotion of residents, and disciplinary action; supervision of residents; and resident education in the context of patient care. The Program Director must administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME Competency domains. The Program Director must develop and oversee a process to evaluate candidates prior to approval as program faculty members for participation in the residency program education and at least annually The Program Director must obtain review and approval of the Sponsoring Institution’s DIO before submitting information or requests to the ACGME, as required in the Institutional Requirements, and outlined in the ACGME Program The Program Director must document verification completion for all graduating residents within 30 days and provide verification of an individual resident’s completion upon the resident’s request, within 30 days The Program Director must ensure the below: the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures related to grievances and due process ensure the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures for due process when action is taken to suspend or dismiss, not to promote, or not renew the appointment of a resident ensure the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures on employment and non-discrimination. The Program Director must provide a learning and working environment in which residents can raise concerns and provide feedback in a confidential manner as appropriate, without fear of intimidation or retaliation The Program Director must provide applicants who are offered an interview with information related to the applicant’s eligibility for the relevant specialty board

THE COMMUNITY: The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City and is also known as Bronx County. It is the greenest of New City’s borough. Many well-known attractions include the famous Bronx Zoo, the New York Botanical Garden, and the Poe Cottage. Cultural attractions include, the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, which is home to the Arthur Aviles Typical Theatre, a contemporary dance company, and the Bronx Dance Coalition. The Bronx Museum of the Arts, founded in 1971, exhibits 20th century and contemporary art through its central museum space and 11,000 square feet of galleries. Many of its exhibitions are on themes of special interest to the Bronx. The Bronx is also home to the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball, the original Yankee Stadium opened in 1923 on 161st Street and River Avenue, a year that saw the Yankees bring home their first of 27 World Series Championships.
