Academic Instructor Job Details Job Location Stanley M. Isaacs- Education Workforce - New York, NY Salary Range $48,000.00 - $55,000.00 Salary/year Description Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies with a combined annual operating budget of approximately $63 million that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Goddard Riverside and The Isaacs Center are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. Pathways for Youth is an effort to help young adults reach age 26 prepared to be self-sustaining by providing a primary adult support to coach and assist in life planning and navigation over multiple years. Position Summary: We are seeking a goal-oriented, energetic individual who can effectively engage with people from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities. The ideal candidate will create and maintain positive working relationships with program participants. The instructor must be a self-starter who is committed to the mission, values, and beliefs of the Isaacs Center and the Education Workforce Development department. Under the supervision of the Academic Services Manager and through collaboration and the academic and workforce development goals of the Advance and Earn program. Schedule: Monday through Friday 35 hours per week Salary Range: $48,000 - $55,000 Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account. Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties + Provide basic education in a creative and stimulating fashion for adults and out-of-school youth while creating a nurturing and supportive environment + Establishes and embraces an environment that respects individuals from diverse backgrounds + Teach, develop, and help prepare students to master subtests which consist of four sections of the GED Test which include: Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA*), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. + Prepare and facilitate lessons and instructional activities daily based on student interests, ability, English proficiency, and other factors in the class + Plan classwork and homework assignments to support students’ understanding of course objectives and basic skills for literacy + Develop weekly class assessments to measure each student’s mastery level of benchmark skills and determine progress in the class + Review progress with students throughout the cohort in individual meetings and discuss methods to help make improvements + Maintain an orderly classroom during instruction and other times by establishing procedures for students and expectations for behavior + Research, evaluate and assess adult literacy issues appropriate to adult literacy programs + Possesses strong time management & communication skills + Maintains student confidentiality regarding their educational, social, and emotional challenges + Utilize positive youth development strategies to resolve behavioral challenges and celebrate youth achievement. + Possesses basic understanding of Microsoft Office suite. + Develop and facilitate workshops and other events to enhance confidence levels. + Submit reports as required including monthly reports to supervisor. + Maintain and input associated program data, such as attendance, case notes, grades, etc. + Participate in pre-program and ongoing professional development opportunities and daily staff meetings in addition to formal feedback and coaching + Implement all health and safety protocols as required. + Perform additional duties as assigned by manager and leadership Qualifications/Educational Requirements • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field with relevant experience, MA/MS a plus.• Minimum 2 years of successful instruction/facilitation.• Demonstrated successful engagement with an at-risk population.• Experience with curriculum development, with specific focus on thematic units of study.• Superior organizational, verbal and written communication skills.• Working knowledge of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) the current GED Exam.• Expertise in Common Core-aligned instruction.
