Responsibilities

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking a highly motivated recent fellowship graduate with expertise in microsurgery, hand trauma, peripheral nerve surgery, and complex wrist surgery to join our academic medical practice in the Hand Surgery Division. This position includes responsibilities in Rochester, MN, and the surgeon will operate across the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in both clinical research with a foundation in basic science research and demonstrate experience presenting their work on national and regional platforms. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary Division with world-renowned faculty with an established reputation for excellence in treating a wide range of simple and complex hand, wrist, and upper extremity conditions for patients of local, national, and international origin.

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic is unified in its vision to definitively improve the care of orthopedic patients, not just at Mayo Clinic, but for patients nationwide and worldwide.  Therefore, candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed original research and providing daily orthopedic education to residents and fellows.  Regular, high-level participation in extramural academic and CME activities with national and regional general orthopedic, hand and microsurgical organizations is expected.  It is a further expectation that surgeons practicing within the Mayo Clinic Division of Hand Surgery seek leadership opportunities within specialty societies.

The position is 1.0 FTE clinical/surgical, and the candidate is expected to deliberately build a differentiated practice that will attract patients from the US and abroad. As the clinical practice matures, protected time for research and education can be earned, while the primary initial focus is establishing a differentiated, destination surgical practice. The Department is well-funded and can provide abundant support for both clinical and basic science research in biomechanics, artificial intelligence, soft-tissue biology, bone biology, and cartilage research.

Our state-of-the-art practice is directly supported by nonoperative Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation colleagues who provide extraordinary care, including regenerative medicine interventions, and have expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound. The Division of Hand Surgery also supports five ACGME-accredited Hand surgery fellows each year.
