Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Instructional Associate Professor or Instructional Professor and Program Chair College of Arts & Sciences Location McAllen, TX Open Date 1/6/2025 Position ID 154267 Description The College of Arts and Sciences (ArtSci) at Texas A&M University invites applications for a new full-time position as instructional faculty member and program chair for the Arts and Sciences Program at the university’s Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM). This is a 9-month non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructional Professor or Instructional Associate Professor. This position requires on-campus presence at the HECM location in McAllen, Texas. The departmental home within the College of Arts and Sciences, for the successful candidate will be determined based on the applicant’s education and experience. The anticipated start date for this appointment is June 1, 2025. During the nine-month academic year, the position will be split 60% administrative duties, and 40% teaching duties (with a 1:1 teaching load). The appointment will include an administrative stipend and 1.5 months of summer support for duties conducted over the summer. The Program Chair will work closely with the Assistant Provost for HECM in McAllen, and members of the college leadership team (including department heads) in College Station, TX. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Primary Areas of Responsibility The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the progress and daily operation of the ArtSci program at HECM. Duties as a faculty member: · Teaching one course per semester at HECM. Duties as Program Chair include: ● Scheduling ArtSci courses and managing enrollment issues ● Managing the hiring and onboarding of HECM ArtSci faculty ● Assisting with the evaluation of HECM ArtSci faculty (including the evaluation of teaching effectiveness and making decisions on annual merit) ● Promoting the success and development of HECM ArtSci faculty ● Overseeing funds related to ArtSci instructional enhancement and faculty success at HECM ● Helping HECM ArtSci Faculty coordinate curriculum with departments on the College Station campus. ● Representing the interests of ArtSci on relevant HECM committees ● Coordinating ArtSci student success initiatives ● Providing information about ArtSci courses during New Student Conferences ● Assisting with resolution of student issues arising in ArtSci courses Additional Information The Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM) opened its doors in 2018. Faculty affiliated with the Arts and Sciences Program at HECM provide general education (core curriculum) instruction in humanities, social sciences, and science disciplines. Qualifications Required Criteria ● PhD in a relevant discipline ● Qualifications and experience commensurate with the rank of Instructional Professor or Instructional Associate Professor ● Credentials to teach in one or more of the following disciplines: anthropology, biology, chemistry, communication/journalism, English, economics, history, mathematics, philosophy, physics, psychology, statistics, and/or sociology ● Evidence of excellent teaching ● Relevant service and/or administrative experience ● Interest in supporting and promoting faculty Preferred Criteria ● Experience teaching general education (core curriculum) coursework in at least one of the following areas: anthropology, biology, chemistry, communication/journalism, English, economics, history, mathematics, philosophy, physics, psychology, statistics, and/or sociology ● Administrative experience, including leadership roles within an academic department Application Instructions Qualified applicants should submit the following items to apply.interfolio.com/160292 · a cover letter; · a curriculum vitae; · a personal statement to include philosophy and plans for teaching, research, and service; and · contact information for three references.
