We provide academic advising from the time of deposit and introduce them to campus-wide resources, services, and experiences that will help students thrive both academically and socially. The Advisement Center also provides walk-in services to help students navigate their college experience. The Advisement Center at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a temporary professional Academic Success Advisor staff position Posting Date: September 25, 2024 Review Date: Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Date of Appointment: As soon as possible Description of Responsibilities: The Academic Success Advisor will provide academic advisement and support to incoming freshmen and transfers for the students first year at SUNY Oswego. The Advisor will collaborate with academic departments to develop appropriate action plans for students regarding their course schedule and curricular needs. The Advisor will also assist students in achieving their academic goals by helping them navigate through the challenges and demands of college and will be an intricate part in improving retention support efforts and inspiring students to a timely degree completion. The Academic Success Advisor will: + Advise a caseload of incoming freshmen and transfers and register them for their first semester of courses. + Collaborate with academic departments to ensure accurate curriculum and program information is understood. + Document student progress using Starfish and Degree Works. + Research and implement best practices within academic advising, academic success strategies, and other areas pertaining to the Advisement Center needs. + Implement best practices in working with first generation college students, diverse student populations, and underrepresented student populations, + Collaborate with Advisement Center team members on data gathering and reporting for assessment purposes. In addition, the Academic Success Advisor will be expected to teach EDU 104: Strategic Instruction in the Discipline of Education. This course is a learning strategies course aimed at enhancing a student's success in college. It is a one credit course. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree by the time of appointment + Academic advising or student services experience + Demonstrated student-centered approach and passion for student success with a focus on meeting the needs of diverse student populations + Professional experience must show competence in, and knowledge of, best practices in the assessment of student academic needs + Excellent written and oral communication skills Preferred Qualifications: + Master's degree in education, counseling, student personnel, or job-related field + Experience in the utilization of computer technology tracking systems such as Banner, Degree Works, and/ or Starfish + Demonstrated experience working with and advocating for culturally diverse student populations, students with disabilities, and/ or English language learners At SUNY Oswego, we value the diversity found in each campus community member and strive to create a community where that diversity is embraced and enhanced.
