ASU's Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions seeks an Academic Success Advisor to join our newly redesigned advising team at the Downtown Phoenix Campus as a first year, new student academic advisor. This role involves assisting new students in making timely progress toward completing their degree(s). This position will join a team of Downtown Campus advisors and recruiters while partnering with the Online and West Valley Campus staff as they support student enrollment, retention and graduation through a variety of in-person and virtual academic support strategies including leading orientation and welcome events.
Teach ASU 101 and/or provide academic advising in ASU 101 classesLeads academic advising at new student orientations and admitted student events, including managing transfer credit evaluation and preparing first semester class recommendationsTakes the initiative to communication with team when more advisor-support is needed during peak orientation seasonWork with supervisor and colleagues to create new strategies to support retention of first year studentsPartner with Communication and Marketing Manager for new email, text messaging, and other communication strategies are useful or needed. Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success by using collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, via Zoom, by writing, and by phone;Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the University to aid in student success and excellent service. Able to learn and use multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools) to monitor student academic progress. Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills. Acts as a college and degree program representative to current and prospective students on issues related to academic successWorks to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress and provides follow-up to ensure satisfaction of services providedWorks collaboratively and collegially with departments throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support. Possesses a clear understanding of the college and department mission and values and how these lead our student-centric advising. Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests. Recognizes issues that affect the advising experience and provides suggestions in response. Assists with the coordination of academic success programs or advising policy development and implementation. Other duties as assigned.Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience working at ASU with Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other student support toolsExperience working with new students virtually and in person. ASU academic advising office experience. Teach ASU 101 and/or provide academic advising in ASU 101 classesActivities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
