**BASIC FUNCTION:**
The Academic Technology Specialist provides support to faculty and students in utilizing educational technologies. This role involves serving as a subject matter expert in academic technology, researching and selecting appropriate tools to enhance teaching and learning. Key responsibilities include administering the Learning Management System (LMS) and other learning-related systems, developing and delivering training materials, and providing technical assistance to faculty and students on the effective integration of technology into their courses. The Academic Technology Specialist works closely with other members of the Academic Computing Team and the Center for Academic Excellence to adapt and deliver training to faculty. The Academic Technology Specialist also collaborates with other departments within the University, including the rest of ITS on critical initiatives, the Office of Accessibility for academic technology support related to online exams, and other relevant departments, to ensure the successful integration and support of academic technology across the institution.
**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:**
**EDUCATION:** Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, technical certification or equivalent related experience.
**EXPERIENCE:** 3+ years experience working with educational technology in a higher education setting. A working knowledge of Windows, Mac OS X, and mobile technologies is required, along with a basic knowledge of troubleshooting software and operating system problems. Knowledge of academic tools (Qualtrics, MS Sway and Teams, Padlet, Zoom, etc.), and multimedia tools (Camtasia, Adobe Express, Kaltura). Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills are required. The ability to prioritize duties, and a capacity to critically evaluate and quickly learn new software technologies are essential. Prior experience administering an LMS (Blackboard Learn Ultra, Canvas, etc.) and generating reports using Illuminate Enhanced (previously Bb Data) is preferred.
**REPORTS TO:** Director of Academic Computing
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
+ Serves as subject matter expert in academic technologies to advise and assist faculty in finding the right tools to support their course pedagogy.
+ Serves as Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator and oversees its day-to-day operation while providing training and support to faculty and students.
+ Acts as administrator of the streaming video service (Kaltura).
+ Develops all types of training materials related to the learning systems (including PDFs, video tutorials, online and digital texts, etc.).
+ Assists in incorporating a wide range of teaching technologies into face-to-face and online classes.
+ Provides primary assistance to ITS Help Desk to facilitate first-level support for all learning systems.
+ Works closely with other members of the ITS, the Center for Academic Excellence, and Fairfield’s online team to continually adapt and refine technologies and training offered to faculty.
+ Participates in the growth and development of the department.
+ Promotes safe and secure working conditions.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
