Position Overview
Accessibility Services Accommodation Assistant works in close collaboration with the Accessibility Services Office, Academic Success, faculty, campus colleagues, and families on behalf of the students who have documented disabilities. The Accommodation Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting registered students with disabilities by maintaining the flow of office tasks including: overseeing the daily functions of the Accommodate software including circulating accommodation letters, alternative format textbook processes, and assistive technology; coordinating and running the Testing Center via communications with students and faculty; assisting with the maintenance of the administrative tasks of the office and the Activate Program for neurodiverse students; and other tasks as assigned by the Director. Training will be provided.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the Accommodate software including circulating accommodation letters and alternative format textbook processes Process all incoming Accommodations requests in Accommodate and assign intakes to staff Manage the ASO Testing Center – including communication with students & faculty and all documentation and record keeping related to the Testing Center Provide administrative and confidential support in office tasks, including communications with students, faculty/staff, and families by managing & triaging the general email box and maintaining records Introduce and train students in adaptive technologies to strengthen their access, including using the iPad, requesting and using alternative-formatted texts, using Canvas to access course materials, and making other materials accessible as needed Supporting the needs of the Activate Program for neurodiverse students. Assisting with the training and supervision of the student workers, student mentors/leaders and graduate fellow(s) Provide information to current, new, and prospective student and parent concerns, meet with and communicate with outside agencies when necessary. Participate in new student orientation, Admitted Student Days, Open Houses, and other programs as needed Work in direct support for our current students with visual impairments/blindness, hearing impairments/deafness, and physical limitations by coordinating with their faculty and student workers making all course materials accessible. This includes managing equipment needed to make classrooms accessible Maintain up-to-date expertise in adaptive and assistive technology Will assist the office staff in student pre-registration every semester Other tasks as identified as necessary (e.g., newsletters, trainings/workshops/outreach) by the Director Possible flexible hours with occasional night and weekend requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred Professional experience in a field relevant to the delivery of support services to students. Previous experience working on a team in a fast-paced student-centered office environment. Ability to communicate effectively with various parties, be organized and responsible, maintain systems and processes, maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with academic support in higher education Experience working with students with documented disabilities under the ADA, 504, and/or IDEA Possession of a professional working knowledge of the disabilities affecting college-age students along with knowledge of the process of determining appropriate accommodations. Possession of a solid level of knowledge of campus department partners for consultation and referrals and of academic curriculum to give general academic advice and make referrals.
