About the Role
The primary purpose of the Accession Area Technician position is to facilitate the flow of work through the Accession Area. Responsible for entering orders and scanning specimens for laboratory tests into laboratory information system (LIS) via a computer terminal. Responsible for retrieving laboratory data from the LIS in order to respond to inquiries from the clinical units concerning test results. Responsible for maintaining working knowledge of the Laboratory and the Hospital Information Systems. Performs routine tasks required for maintaining computer and office equipment within the laboratory. Develops good rapport between the house staff, nursing staff, and patients and the Clinical Laboratory. Assists in processing samples for Reference Laboratories.
ResponsibilitiesWhat You’ll Do
Deliver patient-centered service by creating a welcoming and safe environment, communicating clearly, resolving complaints promptly, and demonstrating respect for patient rights while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.Accept, scan, enter orders, prepare, and distribute specimens to designated areas.Organize and load specimens on racks and automated lines to maintain efficient workflow.Respond to clinical unit inquiries, retrieve test results from LIS, and handle all related telephone inquiries.Address accession area inquiries and perform tasks to maintain computer and office equipment.Adhere to safety protocols, infection control standards, universal precautions, and University Hospital compliance policies.Maintain logs, track inventory, report issues promptly, follow departmental procedures, and assist with training new personnel.Keep work areas clean, collaborate to achieve service goals, stay updated on regulations, and perform other related duties as assigned. QualificationsWhat You’ll Bring
High School diploma or equivalent.Two (2) years of general experience in data processing field.One (1) year of experience in a health care environment is preferred. Knowledge of laboratory terminology an asset. Willingness to accept rotating shifts and non-prime shifts.Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.What We Offer

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position ranges between $20.10 - $21.22 per hour.
