Position Summary/Description:
This Accountant position administers and manages the financial, accounting, and post-award for the Department of Pharmacology. These duties encompass accounting, budgeting, post award grants administration and auditing functions. The specific fund types include include grants, contracts, trusts, gifts, Medical Foundation, overhead, trust and state funds. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to, project/program administration, organizing and planning research operations, communication with internal and external customers. This position serves and provides guidance to recognize long-term projections and goals for Principal Investigators and Core Directors. The position is fully involved in the budget planning process and the development of financial reports and billings. This position is responsible for meeting deadlines, auditing accounts to ensure agency compliance and analyzing all available funding resources to provide financial guidance to PIs and Directors.
Education and Experience:
Four-year degree in accounting or finance. The successful candidate must have experience understanding and applying accounting principles and practices; must be able to verify and ensure accuracy and validity of complex financial transactions, examine accounting records to assure adherence to accounting standards and regulations, maintain and manage accounting records. Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess intermediate level knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively, and work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment. Knowledge of UNC financial systems preferred.
Essential Skills:
The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to manage multiple shifting priorities while meeting and exceeding deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate and present financial information to Principal Investigators. Knowledge of and experience with accounting policies and procedures. The ability to independently prepare, disseminate, and interpret financial reports.
