The University of Miami has a great opportunity for an Accountant 3 - Sr. Accountant to work at the Coral Gables Campus.
Analyzes and reconciles various Balance Sheet ledger accounts, prepares Variance Analysis for these ledgers as needed. Contributes to the end of the month closing process in Workday, such as closing journal and banking activities. Follows up on key communications to the field for monthly closes and for year-end/audit preparation. Contributes to various reporting tasks in preparation of the monthly financial package. Prepares monthly consolidated and divisional Balance Sheets. Analyzes and reconciles Property Held for Sale and Other Assets account controls within the University's general ledger system. Completes various memos and PBCs in a timely manner, which are required for the year-end audit and inspection/analysis of the correct supporting documentation for journals and ad hoc bank transactions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Lead role in analysis and reconciliation of various Balance Sheet ledger accounts, prepares Variance Analysis for these ledgers as needed.
- Lead role and serve as backup in auditing and approving ad hoc bank transactions.
- Prepare and record journals with adequate and complete supporting schedules.
- Contributes to the end of the month closing process in Workday, such as closing journal and banking activities.
- Follows up on key communications to the field for monthly closes and for year-end/audit preparation.
- Contributes to various reporting tasks in preparation of the monthly financial package.
- Prepares monthly monthly consolidated and divisional Balance Sheets.
- Analyzes and reconciles Property Held for Sale and Other Assets account controls within the University's general ledger system.
- Completes various memos and PBCs in a timely manner, which are required for the year-end audit and inspection/analysis of the correct supporting documentation for journals and ad hoc bank transactions.
- Prepare and record journals with adequate and complete supporting schedules.
- Assists the Director, General Accounting, by responding to departments' requests for approval of confidential studies.
- Monitors monthly activity and documents variances at FYE for various high exposure Balance Sheet control ledger accounts.
- Assists Risk Management with proper recording of prepaid insurance and expense recognition.
- Initial approver of University wide year end accrual/deferral and reversing journal entries.
- Assists in the preparation of University wide year end legal and retainage accruals, and unrecorded liabilities.
- Assist accounting manager with audit work papers.
- Assist accounting manager with developing procedures related to balance sheet reconciliation process. Recommend any changes as needed.
- Resolve accounting irregularities
- Assist with special projects assigned by management.
- Reviews transactions and ensures timely deadlines of month-end and year-end entries are met.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of financial applications and processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel in order to quantify and illustrate financial reports.
- Ability to develop, prioritize and accomplish goals.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/recommendations.
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of account information including salaries.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with major in Accounting.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
- At least five (5) years of accounting in a large complex company environment.
- Non-profit experience is a plus.
- Workday experience is a plus.
