The **Accountant** will be responsible for key fiscal functions within FEMA PA projects, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, and accounts payable processes. A successful candidate will have experience with ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations, and should be comfortable with providing their expertise to clients, advising them on how to handle financial matters. Candidates who apply for this position will be considered for **independent contracting** positions. In order to qualify as an **independent contractor** , the candidate must have an active EIN, registered business name, etc. Successful candidates will be required to obtain a FEMA badge; once obtained, that candidate is then eligible to be selected to begin work on projects based on client approval. This position will require the candidate to deploy to work at client sites as assigned. **Responsibilities for the Accountant Include:** + Reconcile the general ledger, manage journal entries, and perform accounts payable processes. + Support the full spectrum of financial activities for FEMA PA projects, including financial reporting, forecasting, and establishing accounting policies and procedures. + Ensure financial compliance and accurate payment processing. + Review loss documentation, evaluate claims for financial validity, and conduct financial risk audits to identify potential vulnerabilities. + Perform in-depth financial evaluations of FEMA loan applications, recommend fund disbursement based on eligibility, and provide financial analysis and consulting services. + Support FEMA PA appeal activities through comprehensive research, financial analysis, cost estimation, and the development of data-driven recommendations and decision papers. **Qualifications for the Accountant Include:** + At least five (5) years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field. + Bachelor-s degree or higher. + Proven experience in the full accounting cycle, from general ledger management to reconciliation and month/year-end close. + Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, contractors, and community members. + Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to act as a consultant and provide constructive feedback to clients. **Compensation for the Accountant Includes:** + Hourly rate range of $55-$85. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
