Description We are looking for a skilled Accountant to join our team in Monterey, California. This long-term contract position requires a dedicated and detail-oriented individual with extensive knowledge of accounting principles and payroll processes. The ideal candidate will work independently, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in all financial and payroll-related tasks. Responsibilities: • Perform detailed accounting tasks, including maintaining and reconciling fiscal records, accounts, and ledgers. • Prepare and review journal entries with proper documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance. • Analyze and reconcile accounts to the general ledger, including payroll liabilities, bank statements, and subsidiary ledgers for accounts payable and receivable. • Process and oversee payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate payroll operations and tax filings. • Review and reconcile biweekly payroll, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed. • Update and manage payroll systems, including pay codes, salary schedules, and deductions. • Handle payroll-related transactions such as retroactive adjustments, garnishments, benefits, and retirements. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, as well as organizational policies. • Prepare and reconcile payroll-related journal entries and financial reports. • Generate and submit payroll tax filings in adherence to regulatory requirements. Requirements • A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with a focus on detail-oriented tasks. • Proficiency in accounting software systems and ERP platforms. • Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP and timekeeping tools. • Strong knowledge of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and financial auditing processes. • Ability to manage balance sheet accounts and perform detailed reconciliations. • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. • Understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. • Experience with financial reporting and compliance standards.
