Description POSITION: Accountant (Non-Profit) LOCATION: Norwich, CT RECRUITER CONTACT: Kelleigh Marquard - Kelleigh.Marquard@Roberthalf We are conducting a search on behalf of our valued client, a dynamic and growing nonprofit healthcare organization in Eastern Connecticut. They are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and compliance within their organization. Position Summary: The Accountant will be instrumental in the preparation of financial statements and supporting reports. Responsibilities include managing fixed asset software, processing bi-weekly payroll and benefits activity into the general ledger, preparing monthly journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, recording cash receipts, and ensuring proper grant balancing for state and local funding. This role will also work closely with the Controller and the CFO by contributing to financial projects, general ledger analyses, and various reconciliations. Key Responsibilities: + Maintain and manage fixed asset software, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting. + Process and post bi-weekly payroll and benefits activity to the general ledger. + Prepare and record monthly journal entries to ensure the accuracy of financial data. + Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis, troubleshooting discrepancies as needed. + Post cash receipts and prepare reconciliation reports to ensure accurate cash flow tracking. + Assist in balancing grant budgets and expenditures for state and local grants, confirming compliance with funding requirements. + Conduct general ledger account analysis and contribute to organizational financial projects. + Support workflow improvements related to financial systems, cash receipts, payroll, and reconciliations. + Assist in tracking, analyzing, and interpreting financial data to ensure compliance with GAAP and grant guidelines. Requirements + Bachelor's Degree in Accounting + At least 3 years of experience in accounting (nonprofit and/or healthcare experience preferred). + Proficiency with general ledger accounting, fixed asset tracking software, payroll software, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. + Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles with familiarity in grant compliance, cost reporting, and revenue recognition. + Experience with grant management, ensuring expenses are allowable and funds are utilized within the required timeframes. + Ability to analyze and reconcile complex financial data, maintaining attention to detail and accuracy. + Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. + Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise tact, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
