Overview:
MPC is looking for an Accountant! This position is part of the Logistics Accounting team within the Controller’s organization located in San Antonio, TX. The team is primarily responsible for managing accounting for logistics assets owned by MPLX. Specifically, the team ensures volumetric and monetary information is uploaded and processed correctly within the company’s accounting systems to ensure that internal and external financial statements are accurate and complete.
Key tasks include verifying that invoices billed to customers are accurate and complete, recording of revenue and operating expense accruals and adjustments, and performing analytical reviews on results of operation for assigned assets. This position will be responsible for accounting for several logistics assets in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with company policies using the various accounting and operational systems. This position will be responsible for compiling documentation used in verification of compliance with SOX controls. In addition, this position may be responsible for testing SOX controls, supporting financial reporting and assisting other accountants and accounting supervisors on the logistics team as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Collects, compiles, analyzes, and verifies financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigates and resolves discrepancies.Prepares analysis and schedules in support of financial statements.Creates and records journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts.Identifies efficiencies and recommends ways to improve processes and standards.Ensures the integrity of financial transactions with both internal and external stakeholders.Supports accounting processes by addressing and assisting with fulfilling business requirements, process, or system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.Ensure standard business processes are followed within specific accounting functions.Ensures successful completion of internal and external audits.Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.Displays ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to, Excel, SAP, Right Angle, BW, Quorum, etc.May serve as a resource to less experienced accountants. May train or review the work of others.May document, update, and maintain internal procedures or work on special projects.May assist in preparation of analysis and schedules in support of financial statements and related disclosuresMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Accounting degree preferred.Minimum 2 years accounting, finance, or related experience.Oil and gas experience preferred.Skills & Competencies:
