The unit of External Awards and Reconciliation within the Office of the Bursar is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Accountant - Intermediate Professional. The responsibilities for the Accountant position include, but are not limited to the following: + Analyze and process a high volume of external award payments to the applicable student Bursar account. + Invoice, process, and record semester payments for Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), along with other state rehabilitation grant programs. + Work closely with the Office of Student Aid to ensure financial aid internal scholarships are disbursed and reconciled. + Setup, analyze, invoice, and assign Third Party Contracts (TPCs) for organizations paying relevant student educational costs, per the contractual terms of the contract. + Use the financial system to record journal entries for scholarship payments received and non-purchase order invoices to process check returns to awarding agencies due to changes in student eligibility. + Examine, audit, and review records and reports for the financial aid sources above to ensure compliance with regulations and policies and efficient and effective operations. + Correspond (email, phone, in-person) with students, parents, donors, sponsors, and staff related to the functions above. The successful candidate for this position must possess the following characteristics: + Excellent communication skills to address unique situations and concerns in daily interactions with various Penn State offices, outside agencies, parents, and students. + Excellent problem-solving skills to plan, organize, and direct work objectives, priorities, and deadlines. + High level of professionalism and the ability to meet specific deadlines, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. + Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel and experience with student and business systems/software is highly desirable. Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
