Position Overview

We are looking for a detail oriented and self-motivated individual to join Shaw’s fast-paced, dynamic, diverse, and evolving Corporate Tax Department.  The tax staff accountant will assist the Tax Department in all functions related to domestic, international income, franchise, sales and use taxation for Shaw Industries Group, Inc., subsidiaries and related entities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

On a timely and accurate basis, this Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of the income and franchise tax returns of Shaw Industries Group, Inc. and related entities, including but not limited to the following: consolidated federal income tax return, separate company and combined state income tax, franchise tax, excise tax and similar returns, U.S. reporting regarding foreign corporations including compliance-related forms and information-reporting forms, foreign local currency tax returns. 

Assist in the preparation of all federal, state and foreign estimated payments and extensions. 

Accountable for the accurate and timely filing of 300+ monthly sales and use tax returns monthly. 

Responsible for extracting tax data from various sources for return preparation, reviewing data for completeness and accuracy, and importing into Vertex Quantum Returns.

Responsible for monthly reconciliation of all sales and use tax accounts for Shaw entities. 

Preparation of journal entry adjustments to the General Ledger.

Assist with tax audits by gathering information requested by auditors, reviewing auditors’ proposed adjustments and documenting conclusions for Tax Senior’s review.

Draft responses to notices from the IRS, state and foreign departments of revenue on a timely basis for Tax Senior’s review. 

Assist the Tax Senior in the preparation of the quarterly and annual domestic income tax provisions (including schedules and workpapers) required under ASC 740, which includes the calculation of income tax contingencies for FIN 48 analysis. 

Research and document tax related issues and propose solutions or other actions to Tax Senior.  Follow legislative updates and determine the applicability to company’s business activities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

Bachelor’s degree in accounting.  Tax accounting concentration preferred but not required.  Alternately, sufficient experience indicating a level of knowledge in corporate income or sales and use taxes. 

Ability to do income tax research using electronic research tools.

Basic understanding of federal corporate income tax return preparation process including tax workpaper preparation and cross referencing, calculation of basic book/tax differences and understanding of federal Form 1120.

Basic understanding of state income tax return preparation process including apportionment concepts and ability to research each state’s filing requirements.

Basic understanding of sales and use tax law.

Comprehensive knowledge of MS Office.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely using formal business writing techniques and internal memorandum.

Organizational skills.
